Joel Zuidhof

Joel Zuidhof grew up in Western Canada. Since his parents met and married while playing in the rock band Jonah, it seemed destined that he would work in music. After high school, Joel went to Dordt College where he met Grant Elgersma and began playing rock and roll. Grant and Joel recruited a band and began writing and recording music under the name Progeny. While at Dordt, Joel also began working on composing theatre scores. Upon graduating from Dordt, Joel got a job in a Christian music recording studio in Nashville and began learning the technical side of making music. After spending some time learning the ins and outs of CCM, he moved on to Purdue University to study theatre and film sound scoring. As part of his Purdue assistantship, Joel managed the recording studio and was able to keep working with Grant on rock music. After his graduation from Purdue, Joel headed to Chicago and decided to work solely on rock music. After nearly three years, two failed band members, and some hefty debt, Joel and Grant (as OVERHANG) are finished recording their first album and are getting ready to go into the studio in January to record their second album with Christian music producer Mitch Dane. Although still without a committed bass player, Joel is hopeful that he will begin to earn a living from his work with OVERHANG within the next year.
